Settlement & General Employment
Program Summary:
SOPA provides customized settlement and employment support to help newcomers find and retain employment in Canada. We engage a network of six settlement agencies across the country to deliver local job-search training and information sessions about life in Canada to prepare immigrants for a successful integration.

Program Features

The SOPA program offers province-specific one-on-one sessions, based on your individual needs. Services include:
- Personalized one-hour planning session on career goals and settlement needs and assets, including a settlement plan
- Customized career coaching sessions (navigating the local job market, resume and interview preparation/feedback) with an Employment Counsellor located in your province of landing, including a career action plan
- Access to facilitated and self-guided online courses. Course topics include Job Search Strategies, Workplace Communication, Complex Conversations, Working with Others, Canadian Workplace Integration, Working in Canada, and many more
- Networking opportunities with employers, regulatory bodies, and other newcomers to Canada
- Foreign Credential Recognition support
- Post-landing follow-up
Eligibility
Here are the eligibility criteria to participate in SOPA
- Live outside Canada
- Have received approval from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to immigrate to Canada. You must have one of the following documents:
- A confirmation of Permanent Residence document
- A letter notifying pick up of Canadian visa (for permanent resident applicants only)
- A request for medical examination letter
- A passport request letter
- A Canadian visa (but have not landed in Canada yet)
- An IRCC invitation letter to obtain pre-arrival services
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Have access to a computer and high-speed Internet
- Committed to completing online training before arriving in Canada
How to Register

Select the SOPA Pre-Arrival Program during your registration. Prepare to have applicable documents ready to upload to your registration.
